51. What does a burnout cost a company?

Oct 05, 2026

Question 51 of 108 · The boundary: what IO8 does not do

Informed reader

A burnout means four to six months of absence, where an ordinary sick leave lasts fifteen days.

The direct cost runs from fifteen to thirty-five thousand euros depending on the level of the position. Indirect costs multiply it by two to three: replacement, loss of skills, team disorganisation, recruitment.

For a senior executive, a single case avoided represents fifty to one hundred thousand euros.

A twenty-thousand-euro seminar becomes trivial to defend.
