100. What is the compounding of small habits?

Question 100 of 108 · Habits

Informed reader

One routine kept makes another possible.

The mechanism is that of compound interest: the return produces in turn. A routine once installed frees up attention, which makes the next one cheaper. You do not add efforts, you make them work for one another.

That is why order matters more than intensity. One habit kept for six months is worth more than ten attempted for three weeks.

The result comes from the stacking, not from the effort.
